Ok I took the Curious George non-dvd back to Wal Mart yesterday. First I got there at 6am because I am a morning person, especially when it comes to avoiding obnoxious shoppers who think they are the only ones in the store and block the aisles while staring aimlessly at the shelves. Anyway, the woman told me that customer service doesn't open til 7am but that she would return it anyway. Well what's the point of a 24 hour store? So then she sees the open dvd and says you can't return this. I explained it wasn't even the dvd and again I am asked if I bought it shrink-wrapped. I told her I had spoken to the asst mgr and he said I could. She called the manager on duty and he never came up front. She scanned it and it rang up $10 not the $5 I had paid the week before. Then she told me she would refund the $5 only because that's what was on the receipt. I never asked for $10. She wrote a long note on the receipt because she was worried about her "numbers" and getting in trouble and that "nobody better say anything to me about it!". I think by now you can guess what I was dealing with. They had no concern it may have been the supplier, only that I am a thief and that I replaced the original dvd with a russian one. I would go through this abuse for a $5 children's dvd.
Later I went to the library and returned the cd case that we checked out without a cd. And on we go. The library is supposed to check these in and check for missing items. Then when they unlock the dvd's cd's etc they are to check that the item is indeed being checked out. It was the same woman (I use that term loosely as she is always wearing shorts and a tank top showing off her heavily tatooed arms and 300 lb pony-tailed body looking like she is going to a softball game with her lady partner not representing the library)who checked me out the week before. She opened it in disbelief that it could be empty. Asked her co-worker at the next station who asked me if I just noticed it now and why hadn't I called them when I noticed it. Somehow I don't think they would have been any nicer had I done that. They said they would get in touch with the person who had it before. Like that person will say oh yeah I never returned the cd in the case. So as expected I will now become responsible for paying for the missing cd. That THEY missed checking for on two occasions NOT doing THEIR job. And they give me a bad attitude.
It makes you want to move to another planet.

I don't like the assumption that we are all criminals. There are a few stores now that are taking returns without hassle, but the clerks are so bothered by the exchange/refund process that they grill you like a common thief. Ugh.
I always tell them that IF I was going to jail for something, that it isn't going to be for some silly children's DVD--that it's gonna be for murder or something big like that. That usually lightens the mood a bit....and I think scares them. :)
Oh good grief! ::headdesk:: You would think the WalMart folks would be happy to find out about the problem and check all of the ones on the shelf!
